“Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un”
“Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return.” –  Quran 2:156

When a Muslim passes away, the family must act quickly. Islam requires the body to be buried as soon as possible ideally within 24 hours of death.

At Kaashimukthi, we understand the urgency and the sacredness of Islamic funeral rites. Our team responds immediately, coordinates with the mosque and local burial ground, and ensures every step follows Islamic traditions with full respect and care.

What is a Muslim Funeral (Janazah)?

A Muslim funeral, known as Janazah, is the set of religious rites performed for a deceased Muslim in accordance with Islamic law (Sharia). The word Janazah refers both to the funeral prayer and to the overall process of preparing and burying the deceased.

In Islam, death is understood as the soul’s return to Allah a transition from this world (Dunya) to the next (Akhirah). Because of this belief, Muslim funerals are marked by simplicity, urgency, and deep reverence. There is no elaborate display or extravagance; instead, the focus is entirely on spiritual preparation and the swift, dignified burial of the deceased.

The Janazah process encompasses four key stages: the ritual washing of the body (Ghusl), the wrapping of the body in a white shroud (Kafan), the communal funeral prayer, and the burial (Dafn) ideally completed within 24 hours of death.

Cremation is strictly prohibited in Islam. The body must be buried intact, placed on its right side facing the Qibla (the direction of Mecca), as a symbol of the deceased’s orientation toward Allah even in death.

Kaashimukthi’s team understands the religious importance and time-sensitive nature of Janazah. We are available around the clock to ensure every step is carried out correctly, respectfully, and in full accordance with Islamic tradition.

Islamic Funeral Rituals & Traditions

Muslim funerals follow a specific sequence prescribed in Islamic law. Kaashimukthi ensures every step is carried out with reverence and accuracy.

1. Ghusl (Ritual Bathing)

The body is washed an odd number of times (minimum three) with clean water and soap or lotus leaves. This is performed by a Muslim of the same gender, typically a family member or trained professional.

2. Kafan (Shrouding)

The body is wrapped in plain white cotton cloth. Men are wrapped in three pieces; women in five. Perfume (excluding alcohol-based) may be applied.

3. Salat al-Janazah (Funeral Prayer)

A congregational prayer is offered for the deceased. It is a communal obligation (Fard Kifayah) and is performed before burial.

4. Burial (Dafn)

The body is buried as soon as possible ideally within 24 hours. The deceased are placed on their right side, facing the Qibla (direction of Mecca). Cremation is not permitted in Islam.

5. Talqin & Dua

A short recitation (Talqin) is made near the grave, and prayers (Dua) are offered for the deceased’s soul.
