We Handle Hindu Last Rites With Full Respect and Care

When someone passes away, the family is in deep grief. At the same time, there are many religious rituals that need to be done properly and on time.

At Kaashimukthi, we take care of every step of the Hindu funeral (Antim Sanskar) — from the moment of death until the ashes are immersed in a sacred river.

You just focus on your family. We will handle everything else.

What is Hindu Antim Sanskar?

Antim Sanskar means the “last rites” in Hinduism. It is one of the 16 sacred rituals (Shodasha Samskaras) in a Hindu’s life.

Hindus believe that the soul (atma) does not die — it leaves the body and moves towards its next birth or towards moksha (liberation). The funeral rituals help the soul leave the body peacefully and move on.

The body must be cremated as soon as possible — usually within 24 hours of death.

Step-by-Step Hindu Funeral Process

Step 1: Preparation of the Body (Antyesti)

  • The body is bathed and dressed in clean white clothes
  • A tulsi leaf and Ganga jal (holy water) are placed in the mouth
  • The body is laid on a bier (arthi) decorated with flowers
  • Family members gather to pay their last respects and chant prayers

Step 2: Funeral Procession (Yatra)

  • The body is carried from home to the cremation ground
  • Family chants “Ram Naam Satya Hai” (The name of Ram is the truth)
  • The eldest son or male relative leads the procession

Step 3: Cremation (Dah Sanskar)

  • The body is placed on the funeral pyre
  • The eldest son (or nearest male relative) lights the pyre — this is called Mukhagni
  • The pandit recites mantras and Vedic shlokas throughout the cremation
  • The body returns to the five elements — earth, water, fire, air, and sky

Step 4: Collecting the Ashes (Asthi Sanchay)

  • On the 3rd day after cremation, the ashes and bones are collected
  • This ritual is called Asthi Sanchay
  • The ashes are kept safely for immersion

Step 5: Asthi Visarjan (Ash Immersion)

  • The ashes are immersed in a holy river — Ganga (Haridwar/Varanasi), Yamuna, or the nearest river
  • This is believed to help the soul attain peace and moksha
  • Kaashimukthi assists with asthi visarjan at Haridwar and Varanasi

Step 6: Mourning Period (Shok Kaal) — 13 Days

  • The family observes a 13-day mourning period at home
  • On the 10th day, Dashagatra rituals are performed
  • On the 13th day, Terahvin (the final day ceremony) is held
  • A pandit leads prayers and the family hosts a community meal (bhandara)
